Fund Raising

We've performed at quite a few of these fund raising, and they can provide not only a very lucrative way of raising funds, but also enormous fun as well. At a time when money is a bit tight for some, it makes sense to be offering some real value in exchange for contributions. Not only that, a happy and lubricated guest is more likely to be a generous guest.

Having a theme helps to build up an atmosphere, especially if you encourage everyone to dress up. it is easier to be more relaxed and join in with the fun if you are not the only one looking like an extra from Monty Python's 'Holy Grail'. We've performed at banquets where the the dress code was 'formal', and it is harder work than going for the theme flat out, with awards for the best costume. I won't go into the psychology of 'in-group conformity' or 'out-group hostility' here, just trust me. Do think about what you will tell attendees in advance, and what recommendations you'll make. The most surly, miserable group I've ever seen were the table dressed up in posh frocks and 'black tie' at a charity event, surrounded by everyone else having fun in full fancy dress.

At one event we suggested that titles were sold in advance - those paying extra were awarded a presentation certificate with their name and title and a 'Get out of the stocks free' card. They were also played into the venue with pipes and drums, and announced by the jester. Nothing that involved huge costs, but the extra fund raising made quite a difference to the overall profit.

Our jesters are happy to run auctions, and run fund-raising games for you as well.
